Thunder, Not Airplanes

I awoke this morning to the sound of thunder, not airplanes. Hurray for the wonderful rain and hurray for the ceasefire. Violence only begets violence, misunderstanding and hatred. I have friends in Ramallah, Tel Aviv, Gaza and Beersheva. I want them to remain my friends. None of them should suffer the way they did.

My concentration was shot this week. I got through the reading on Monday in Jerusalem with the 4Locals by explaining to myself that literature is not a luxury in times of war. For some, like me, it’s a necessity.
The day before, I emailed David at Tmol Shilshom, where the reading was. Maybe we should cancel? I asked. No, he retorted. The show must go on. Get yourself down here. And I did. And people came. And now the sun has come out and it’s chilly outside and I’m grateful.
